Final Cut Pro Error Unable To Initialize Video Deck
• NEXT >> • Unable to Initialize Video Deck by trevorwr on Nov 7, 2007 at 3:08:19 pm I am capturing video with a Panasonic DVX100b to Final cut but when I enter the Log and Capture section I always get the error box that reads, "Unable to Initialize Video Deck. You may still log clips offline or use Capture NOw." I have tried turning the camera on and off, unplugging and replugging the firewire cord, but nothing seems to work It has worked in the past with the same camera cord, but it isn't working now. Any suggestions?Return to posts indexReport Post •Re: Unable to Initialize Video Deckby Rob Forsythe on Nov 7, 2007 at 5:08:38 pmThis list contains virtually everything to try to enable: a. External Monitor VIDEO and AUDIO via FireWire & DV deck or camcorder. b. Viewing in the Canvas window on the computer screen. c. Being able to record on the external FW DV deck or camcorder. d. Being able to capture from a FW device. If working this list doesn't cure the problem... you may have a serious PROBLEM! Try things in this order until you find the "cure": 1. Make sure you have only ONE (1) FireWire deck, camcorder, DV capture "card", or D-to-A converter or video device attached to the computer at a time. Any more than one DV device can cause loss of signal and control. 2. Make sure you have View (Menu) > External Video> All Frames set. (If the ALL FRAMES option is grayed-out... jump to step 6 below and continue.) 3. Make SURE your Canvas window (right window) in FCP is set to "Fit to Window"... AND that it has not been "pushed off" the edge of the computer screen or "pushed into" other windows. 4. Make sure your CANVAS View Menu (Box Icon with broken sides) is checked on Image or Image+Wireframe... NOT just Wireframe. 5. Make sure your CANVAS View Menu is checked on RGB... NOT just Alpha. 6. Make sure your Final Cut Pro (menu) > Easy Setup... is set for DV-NTSC (or DV-PAL, if that's where you are). 7. Some camcorders/decks work better under "FW (NTSC/PAL)" -or- "FW (NTSC/PAL) Basic" control (in the capture settings). Try either setting to see which works best for your device. 8. Make sure your Final Cut Pro (menu) > Audio/Video Settings > A/V Devices (tab) > Mirror on Desktop > must be CHECKED. (If not, playing video will not appear in the Canvas.) 9. Make sure the "Log and Capture" Window is CLOSED and not just "hidden" behind other windows. 10. Make sure you have chosen FW output for A/V: Final Cut Pro (menu) > Audio/Video Settings... > Video Playback: Apple FireWire NTSC (720 x480) Audio Playback: FireWire DV 11. Turn off the power to the Camera/Deck/Converter Box, then turn it back ON. 12. Make sure
everybody, I've got two problems that I'm sure are related: 1) FCP doesn't seem to be recognizing my deck when printing to video. 2) I keep getting the message "Unable to Initialize video deck" when I try to log and capture. I'm using FCP 5 on a Dual 2GHz G5, 1.5 Gigs of Ram, MacOS 10.4.11 and am using a Canon ZR85 mini dv camcorders as my deck. I've used two different Firewire cables, so I'm sure there's no fault there. I also tried using a different camera (Sony HDR-FX1 set to DV) and got the same results. I've already trashed the FCP prefs, and the Quicktime Receipts, and am still getting the message. Any help is greatly appreciated. https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/8/961647 Thank you. Arvid Reply Quote Re: Unable to initialize video deck, or print to video. (February 03, 2009 02:48PM) phansen God Forbid, but how about USB? And the obvious of restarting Final Cut "After" plugging in devices and "after" turning all devices on first. Any chance you recently edited in HD? Try easy set up - NTSC - Firewire Basic - Then New Project- to re set. Just rehashing the obvious, or not so obvious depending on your experience level. Quit FCP, then switch your camera on, re-start final cut, choose your easy set-up. USB won't work. If it's a Canon then Firewire Basic is the way to go, also are you capturing onto Firewire drives? Some Canons have been known to overwrite the firewire signal of your hard drive so this could cause problems. Dan. Reply Quote Re: Unable to initialize video deck, or print to video.
