My internal hard drive died and had to be replaced. Fixed that... reinstalled all the programs... went to get back to my edit, opened my project file and General error (41) popped up. I save my program files and media on my 500 GB external FireWire drive, never had a problem before the internal hard drive issue. Read through numerous https://discussions.apple.com/thread/760549?start=0&tstart=0 threads, but never found anything about issues arising out of internal hard drive replacement. I reset my user prefs, but it didn't work. Can I request Duane's expertise? Do you need more info? Please help, N Ignore the attachment please. General Error 41 is usually displayed when trying to open a project file with a version of Final Cut that is lower than the version in which it was created. I then transferred all my video files onto a portable hard-drive and then onto another mac, to continue working on it in FCP 5.For final cut express some reason I keep getting the above error message and cannot access the project at all. Help!! :( Arnoldrob replied… Likes # 0 Posted 10 Jun 09 bowiegirl,I captured some clips 1080p25 using Apple Inter Codec from my Canon HV30 into FCE HD Ver 3, made a short sequence and saved the file and it opened ok in FCP ver 5.1.4. I needed to reset the scratch disk to the folder where the files were but it the loaded OK. You have to be careful to make all your settings the same as as used in FCE One of the problems with FCP is that it does’nt bring all the files attributes in when you open a file it tends to stay with the last used program especially with regard to scratch disks. Were you using Apple Intermediate codec, my version of FCE only has that setup for HD files. bowiegirl replied… Likes # 0 Posted 10 Jun 09 Hi arnoldr,Thanks for this - so do you mean that I open FCP 5 with a brand new blank project, set all my preferences, scratch disks etc to the new location on the new mac, then close FCP........then reopen FCP, but this time open the project I couldn't op

It has one of the least helpful warning dialogs and is frustratingly difficult to solve. However, I've learned that when a General Error occurs it is almost always related to a bad clip, or a bad render file, in your sequence. Maybe not always, but this should be the first place to check.General Errors most often relate to render problems; either when you are rendering directly during editing, or rendering as part of an export. While there isn't a fast way to fix this, it can be fixed. Before you attempt to fix a General Error, it doesn't hurt to reset your system by doing a Safe Boot.NOTE: Here's an article that explains how to do a Safe Boot: Trouble-Shoot in Five StepsTHINGS TO CHECK1. While Final Cut SHOULD be able to work with video of different frame rates, it can often have problems when a clip with a faster frame rate (say, 30 fps) is put into a slower sequence (say, 23.98 fps). Disable clips with different frame rates and see if the General Error goes away when you render.NOTE: To disable a clip, select it and type Control+B. A clip changes color when it is disabled.2. It is possible that a specific render file became corrupted. This isn't your fault, every so often it just happens. Delete all render files and see if the error goes away.NOTE: To delete all render files associated with a track, turn off the green visibility light, located in the track header on the left of the Timeline, then turn it back on. This is just a quick click - click. If you don't turn the visibility light back on, all
