Final Cut Pro Disk Full
it will be fine. But once I load in say 2 or 3 .mp4 clips into the canvas, it will say "General Error" and pretty much stop working. I have tried to

clear the preferences, but I don't even have the com.apple. file needed to clear it in there. Also, I've imported numerous .mov files, worth gig's of file memory, and it will load them in there just fine. All i want to do is edit right now and this **** thing keeps crashing.Help me out!Jonny Mac OS X (10.5.8) Posted on Jul 15, 2010 12:15 AM I larry jordan have this question too Close Q: FCP "General Error" "out of memory" ONLY with .mp4 files All replies Helpful answers by the black sun, the black sun Jul 15, 2010 12:19 AM in response to J-tec Level 1 (100 points) Jul 15, 2010 12:19 AM in response to J-tec you need to to convert the .mp4 file into something like ProRes. The video seems to have to be transcoded in order for FCP to accept it (simply copying the video stream from one container to another does not work). Helpful (0) Rep
Gigs are full of a lot of things other than cached files, so the actual number is even a bit smaller. The only thing that you can do to prevent the error is actually to use less memory. Thankfully, here are a bunch of tips on how to do that. 1) NEVER edit in h.264 or any other compressed format. It will add a little bit of transcoding time to the beginning, but it will prevent a lot of rendering and rerendering once in the edit. 2) Make your sequence settings https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2506660?start=0&tstart=0 (ideally) prores, and make sure that all of your footage is transcoded to the same flavor of prores (LT, HQ, 4444, whatever) This applies to framerate as well! 3) Ensure that your audio is aiff (not mp3) and at the same settings as your timeline. 4) Resize all stills to rough video sizes. 30,000 pixel wide files will bog down fcp immediately so crop or scale it down to something closer http://blog.youdownwithfcp.com/2012/07/17/how-to-fix-out-of-memory-error-in-final-cut-pro-7/ to your timeline resolution. If photoshop does this once, then fcp doesn't need to do it a million times. 5) Flat stills are easier than layered files. FCP doesn't have to deal with the precomp that psds or layered tiffs come in as. 6) Close unneeded tabs in the timeline and canvas. So that's basically it. Pre-process your footage to be 100% the same as your timeline and work with as few sequences open as possible. In my experience it seems that once things start erroring there is very little that helps outside of a restart. ~ by ross on July 17, 2012. I keep coming up against that wretched message all the time even when using ProRes… Then again I've been working on some pretty hefty HD projects recently. Have found that if you get the message, flushing some render files using Tools->Render Manager can free up enough memory to get you going again. It's only a temporary fix since the cache will fill up again but it keeps you going when the deadline looms. J John Weeks said this on July 24, 2012 at 4:01

Working on a project and was provided with a gazillion different codecs and still images. I keep getting General Error and Out of Memory error. It seems that my system is not liking the mp4's provided from stock footage houses for one thing. I am using FCP to transcode them and it seems to be a bit happier. The project file is only 25MB do it's not that issue. I can only guess that it is the multitude of codecs in one timeline that is making FCP not respond time and again. Are there other reasons this could be happening? Anyone have a link I can check out with regard the possible issues? Codecs include some PAL transcoded to 23.98 dv .mov h.264 mp4 jpg png tiff Currently replacing the H.264 and mp4 as mentioned Thanks! And that all images are in RGB, not CMYK mode. If any settings are aberrant, you need to make copies of the image files with modified settings. And yes, never edit with MP4s and H.264 files in FCP. www.derekmok.com Reply Quote TroyChristian Re: Out of Memory error May 01, 2012 03:14PM Registered: 10 years ago Posts: 302 as a matter of fact just found a pic that was too large - thanks Derek!! There are several images that I am using that are 1944 x 2592 Resolution 72ppi or even a little bigger (I have made sure that they are all 72ppi). Will this size photo give FCP fits? Still having some wonky behavior with my project. The issue is that I am needing to push way in to fill the 1080p frame and don't want to lose resolution in the process. Thoughts? Still getting some Out of Memory errors. Thanks man! Reply Quote mark@avolution Re: Out of Memory error May 03, 2012 12:47PM Registered: 10 years ago Posts: 547 Yes,large images can be a killer. If I am doing a slide show at 480i, for example, I make sure none of the images are greater than 900 horizontal (allowing for a 25% zoom-in factor). Of course there are alway
