and/or disck drives and/or network connection. This happens when I I bring in footaee from the Viewer, into the Canvas. I had been editing fine before this, and it's only started now, after editing about 4 miniDV tapes. I have http://forums.macrumors.com/threads/keep-getting-dropped-frame-error.288482/ Unlimited RT turned off, it is on 'Safe' at the moment. I have closed all other sequences, so that only the one I am editing in is open. Otherwise, how do I lower my compression data rate? Will this affect the quality of the footage when I go to export? Or is it simply for viewing? I believed I lowered the preference for real time audio in the RT dropdown button in the timeline and this didn't make any https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1844470?tstart=0 difference, I'm still getting dropped frames. Also, I'm editing to a hard drive via USB and not firewire. Ccould this be part of the problem? A friend once told me I should never edit via USB, that it 's too slow. Also, the memory of my mac is 2 GB.If anyone can offer insight, I'd be greatfully appreciative!!Paulina. mac, Mac OS X (10.4) Posted on Dec 29, 2008 9:38 PM I have this question too by Brian Conner,Solvedanswer Brian Conner Level 6 (16,030 points) A: That's good. Thank you.You first need to free up a lot more space on your boot drive. That might be the reason you're dropping frames. Can you off load about 50 to 60 GB? NEXT >> • Drop frames during capture by Nicholas Johnson on Mar 9, 2010 at 11:28:57 pm I know there's tons of posts about this and variable issues - https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/8/1077886 but I was hoping someone could give me a bit more direction that my trial and error runs based off forum posts... I'm working off a clients computer and I expect the problem is that they're trying to use a mac mini to capture HDV footage. Here's the specs: Mac Os x 10.5.7 2.26 ghz Intel Core Duo 2gb 1067mhz DDR3 I've only got about 30gbs final cut left on the internal HD but also tried capture to a lacie external (which probably isn't a good plan; externals have issues with capturing footage right?) We're running FCP HD and capturing from a Canon XHA1 in the lovely 24f mode (not my choice!!!) thoughts??? I'm stuck and frustrated at this point... Return to posts indexReport Post •Re: Drop frames during captureby Shane Ross on final cut pro Mar 9, 2010 at 11:47:04 pm[Nicholas Johnson] "externals have issues with capturing footage right?" WRONG! Internals do! You have it completely backwards. You need to capture to an EXTERNAL drive, not the INTERNAL system drive. That is busy running the OS. But then you have an issue, the mini, like all macs, has only 1 firewire bus. Multiple ports, one bus. So the signal from the camera and then going to the drive, two streams, one bus. That causes issues. And USB drives are NOT a good idea for storage. Slower than FW when it comes to video. Yes, the fact that you are using a mini might be the issue. [Nicholas Johnson] "We're running FCP HD " What version? FCP HD was the name given to FCP 4.5, and 4.5 will NOT run reliably on Intel Macs, or Leopard.
