Can I change my scratch disks halfway through the project? I am working on editing a short film in final cut. This time I captured in Apple Pro Res 422 hq (not sure if that was a bad idea or what) and was editing like this for a while. Now it wont let me render and says "render error: insufficient disk space. Free up space with Render Manager and retry?" and theres nothing to free up on this manager. I went on some websites that said it could be my scratch disks were set to wrong places, and i had set them all to my external hard drive in the beginning but when i looked now waveform cache, thumbnail cache and autosave vault were all set to my internal hard drive, whilst everything else was on the external. When I looked at my internal hard drive i realized it has more space left than my external. So I figured my project couldn't render because my external hard drive had no space. I don't have another hard drive because i am using my school's and mine is still being fixed, and can't delete anything as it is all school stuff and have to wait for a new hard drive to free anything up... The film is due tomorrow, I am not done editing, and I already had an extension so i am kind of on hot stones right now. I thought maybe if I change the other parts of the scratch disks to my internal hard drive this would work as there is more space? But then I just wasn't sure if that would ruin my project... I`m editing a project from my machine to other machine in the network (where the project was created) https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3681089?tstart=0 and where all the stuff are stored (media, project, scratch disk etc…) and my scratch disk leads to this network computer…I've already erased all the stuff from Render Manager but I still have the same message "render error: insufficient disk space"…Do you know why?Larry replies: Yes, you just need to create more free space on your hard disk by deleting https://larryjordan.com/articles/more-render-space-needed/ files you don't need. The amount of required free space is determined by Final Cut Pro > System Settings > General tab -- the Minimum Free Space setting. Make sure it is NOT less than 2500. My general recommendation is 10000.Bookmark the permalink.Leave a Reply Cancel replyYour email address will not be published. But, the Render Manager doesn't even final cut have more than a couple hundred MB in it. And when I try to get rid of that small amount, it won't. It just keeps saying there's insufficient space and won't render. My scratch disks are all set to my external harddrive, which has like 200 GB of space on it, so I'm not sure what the problem is. I really can't think of what I've done to cause this, since it worked fine before and I haven't done anything different than final cut pro normal. If you have any ideas, I'd really appreciate it. There are bugs that prevent rendering and give you the wrong reason. But you'd usually get "Out of memory"; in my own experience, "insufficient disk space" usually means just that. Copy the contents of the timeline to a brand-new, blank project file. Save that, check your Scratch Disk settings, and render. See if it works. If it does work, then you have a bug in your old project file. If it doesn't work, set the Scratch Disk to render to your internal system drive. Also check your System Settings to make sure you don't have "Minimum Allowable Free Space" set too high. If even a new Scratch Disk location doesn't work, then chances are you have media in your timeline that's causing bugs. Eliminate the clips by separating the clips (including audio and graphics) out into groups and rendering piece by piece, to narrow down which clip(s) might be causing the issue. www.derekmok.com Reply Quote radam04 Re: Get "Not enough space" when I try to render, no matter what November 01, 2011 01:48PM Registered: 9 years ago Posts: 61 Great, thanks for the suggestions.
