You may be using a compression type without a corresponding hardware card." Then, after clicking "OK", I am greeted apple prores 422 to a half-open project: the Browser and Viewer are open to the project, but the timeline and canvas aren't open, and are greyed out in the "window" menu. Thus, final cut is inoperable. I can open a clip

open the files in finder and play them in Quicktime, so it seems that any missing codecs aren't affecting it. I looked at other answers on here and they didn't seem to help. I looked in the Quicktime folder in ~/Library to check my codecs, and there are so many, I'm not sure if anything's missing. This problem is very sudden, I haven't touched my Library folder in months and the last time I opened final cut, a few weeks ago, all was well. I am in dire need of a fix pretty soon, thanks in advance for all your help!!! If an overwrite installation, you may have issues. If you did a pro app migration to a new computer, you may have issues. Not all program elements get transfered.2. It has one of the least helpful warning dialogs and is frustratingly difficult to solve. However, I've learned that when a General Error occurs it is almost always related to a bad clip, or a bad render file, in your sequence. Maybe not always, but this should be the first place to check.General Errors https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3561707?tstart=0 most often relate to render problems; either when you are rendering directly during editing, or rendering as part of an export. While there isn't a fast way to fix this, it can be fixed. Before you attempt to fix a General Error, it doesn't hurt to reset your system by doing a Safe Boot.NOTE: Here's an article that explains how to do a Safe Boot: https://larryjordan.com/articles/fcp7-general-error/ Trouble-Shoot in Five StepsTHINGS TO CHECK1. While Final Cut SHOULD be able to work with video of different frame rates, it can often have problems when a clip with a faster frame rate (say, 30 fps) is put into a slower sequence (say, 23.98 fps). Disable clips with different frame rates and see if the General Error goes away when you render.NOTE: To disable a clip, select it and type Control+B. A clip changes color when it is disabled.2. It is possible that a specific render file became corrupted. This isn't your fault, every so often it just happens. Delete all render files and see if the error goes away.NOTE: To delete all render files associated with a track, turn off the green visibility light, located in the track header on the left of the Timeline, then turn it back on. This is just a quick click - click. If you don't turn the visibility light back on, all clips in that track become invisible.3. Sometimes clips downloaded from stock image houses are corrupted during the transfer. Disable any stock shots (select the clip and type Control+B) and re-render.4. If these first three sugge
to edit your GoPro files in Final Cut Pro The GoPro (now at version 4) is an affordable high performance wearable camera to record sporting and other activities. It records in MPEG-4 and outputs http://oeding.com/tutorial-how-to-convert-gopro-hd-footage-for-editing-in-fcp-final-cut-pro/ its files as .MP4 files (the container). Files are compressed using the h.264 codec (as opposed to AAC or Xvid and DivX usually found in .AVI containers). So the files you are getting out of http://dvcreators.net/2011/03/03/how-do-i-export-a-high-quality-movie/ GoPro HD are suited to be delivered as is, which is usually not what you want. The GoPro HD being an “always-on” type of camera worn on your helmet, attached to your bike, surfboard final cut or other, you usually end up with long sequences of footage you then need to edit down. Since the MP4 codec is a final delivery codec it is not one you want to use for editing. Therefore you first need to convert it to a more editing-friendly format, such a Final Cut Pro’s ProRes. First you need to download MPEG Streamclip, a powerful high-quality video converter, player and editor. If final cut pro you are editing with Final Cut Pro (FCP), chances are you already installed this great free utility. If not, download it it from this site. So, what does the workflow look like? 1) Create a folder with the original GoPro *.MP4 files on your hard drive. 2) Launch MPEG Streamclip 3) Select LIST / BATCH LIST in the menu toolbar. This opens a BATCH LIST window. Select all your .MP4 files in your folder, drag & drop them into this BATCH LIST window. 4) Another window automatically opens with a task to choose. Leave the default selection EXPORT TO QUICKTIME. Do not tick any of the other fields. Press OK. 5) The SELECT THE DESTINATION FOLDER window opens. Create a folder for your converted files and SELECT it. 6) The MOVIE EXPORTER windows opens. Select the options as follows: COMPRESSION: APPLE PRORES 422 (LT). Please note that you will only see the Apple ProRes Codecs if you have Final Cut Pro installed as they are being shipped as part of this editing suite. QUALITY: Increase to 100% FRAME SIZE: This will depend on what settings you used to film your original footage so you need to select the one that says UNSCALED. In my case this is 1280×

FCP X FCP 7 FCP X Sharing is caring In Final Cut Pro X, exporting is called sharing. There are two ways to get to the share function: Either go to File > Share or click the Share button: File > Share Click the Share button Even though they look a little different, your options are identical. Here are the two methods we recommend to get the highest quality video: 1. Share Master File We recommend exporting a Master File for every project you do. This will give you the highest quality file possible. Why would you want a Master File? The Master File serves as a mezzanine file, which is used to archive your project in the highest possible quality. This way, you can use encoding tools like DV Kitchen to transcode your mezzanine file to any current or future format. Under "Settings," check these: Format: Video and Audio Video Codec: Source This will export a file using the same audio and video settings as the source footage, ensuring it's the highest quality. In the case of the video in the screenshot, it's Apple ProRes 422, but depending on what camera you used, the source footage may be a different codec. Click "Next" and save 2. Share to the web You can upload your files directly to Vimeo, YouTube, or Facebook using the Share function. Select the web destination YouTube, Vimeo, and Facebook YouTube has slightly different settings options than Vimeo and Facebook, which are noted in the settings instructions. Other than that, they're identical. Sign in Once you sign in, FCP X will post your video directly to YouTube, Facebook, or Vimeo if you are connected to the internet. Under Settings, choose these: Resolution: HD 720p YouTube, Vimeo, and Facebook will allow you to post HD 1080p videos, but most people do not have fast enough internet to stream 1080p, especially if they're watching on mobile devices using data plans, so HD 720p is a happy medium. Compression: Better quality Remember that YouTube, Vimeo, and Facebook will compress your video again, so you ALWAYS want your Compression setting to be Better quality.
